Advanture activity in Nepal

Advanture activity in Nepal
Mountaineering
Nepal has eight of the 14 highest mountains in the world, situated along the Himalayan range, that runs from the eastern to western edge of the country. The world's highest peak, Mt. Everest stands high above the range in north eastern region of the country, on the Sino-Nepalese border, side by side with other gorgeous mountains.

Thousands of trekkers come to Nepal each year to visit the foot hills of the Himalayas, along with hundreds of adventure seekers, who take up to challenge nature by making their attempt on the high mountains. Known as a paradise for mountaineers, for whom Nepal has become a place of pilgrimage and setting their foot on the Nepalese mountains a life time dream.

Nepal has earned its reputation for being the only country in the world with so many mountains of all sizes and shapes, that meets the need and ability of all range of climbers.

For the Nepalese anything under 5,000 meters is considered hills, says the legendary Sherpas who live in high altitude areas during summer month and descent to lower grounds during winter season, when mother nature splashes the area with snow

Ever since the country was first opened to climbers in 1949, Nepal Himalayas has become a great theater of mountaineering activity and drama of success and failure have provided impetus to more men and women to meet the ultimate mountains of Nepal.

The mountaineering season in Nepal is divided into four seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The most popular among them is the spring season, when the harsh weather of winter leaves the mountain after dumping fresh snow and before the monsoon starts. The second best season would be the Autumn season

Rafting

Nepal is one of the best place in the world for rafting and kayaking. Surrounded by its mountain scenery and rivers shaped by them challenges for white-water paddles. A series of the world's most outstanding river journeys is found here, ranging from steep, adrift mountain streams to classic and big-volume wilderness expeditions. All these combination of spectacular rivers, culture, heritage and scenery makes Nepal an obvious river runner's destination.

Grading System
Rivers here are graded from class 1 to 6 with class 1 as an easy-moving water with few obstacles, and class 6 being considered nearly impossible to negotiate and a hazard to life. Anyone who is in reasonable physical shape and not afraid of water can safely go rafting on rivers with grading from 1 to 3. From 4 to 6, people should be active, confident and preferably have some rafting experience.

When to Go
The best time for rafting are September to early December, and March to early June. September to October and May to June can be extremely high monsoon run-off. At this time only experienced rafting company with an intimate knowledge of the river operates the excursion. From the mid -October onwards the weather is settled and this is one of the most popular times to raft. In December many rivers become too cold to enjoy, a time to consider a shorter trips. From June to August the monsoon rains arrive and the river flows becomes 10 times the low-water flows.

Types of Rafting Trips
There are many different type of river rafting. Nepal will be the first white-water experience for many people. It is very important to select the type of trips that suits your interest and ability. Before planning on any of your trips, make sure that you go and visit your rafting company and get all the necessary information on it. Any raft with an oar frame the guide normally sits in the middle and rows, while the other passengers enjoy the scenery. With a paddle raft the guide normally sits at the back calling instructions and steering, while the crew provides the power. A good team work is very important while rafting. Rafting trips are generally quite luxurious trips where you rowed down the river and staff do everything for you (pitch camp, cook and so on). The quality of rafting equipment is another variable, and can make a huge difference to the safety of participants.

Types of Treks & Routes
There are a numerous ways that you can arrange your treks in Nepal such as backpacking, teahouse treks, self arranged treks and treks arranged through a trekking company.

Backpacking
This approach of carrying a light pack, stove, dried food and a tent is not really a good idea of trekking in Nepal as food is available in almost all the village except in the high mountains above 4500 meters. But in higher altitudes, this is more practical.

Teahouse Treks
In Nepali, the word 'Bhatti' is understood as 'Teahouse' though we can also get alcohol (Chyang and Rakshi) in such places. In the trekking regions, the Nepalese generally refer Restaurants or eating places as 'hotels' and use the word 'lodge' to places where accommodation is also provided. Teahouse treks are the most popular mode of trekking in Nepal as hotel accommodation readily available in the Everst Region, Langtang area and the entire Annapurna area. In these area, you can travel with a bare minimum of equipment and rely on 'teahouses' for food and accommodation. However, it is a good idea to carry your own sleeping bag as the bed/sheet provided may not be up to your expectations.

Self-Arranged Treks
You can also gather 'Sherpas', food and equipment and arrange your own trek. You can contact the local trekking agencies and ask them to arrange such a program. These self-arranged treks can be very entertaining among friends. You carry only a small backpack (camera, water bottle and a jacket) and the rest are carried by the porter. The Sherpas set up camps, cook your food and serve meals.

Golfing Adventure
Just 7 kilometers from the center of Pokhara city is the recently completed pro-championship designed 9 holes golf course which is located in a spellbindingly beautiful amphitheater like setting of a river canyon scene with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Annapuma Himalayan range. The Club house is perched on the edge of balcony land 250 feet above the river canyon from where you have a bird eye view below of the golf course with scenes of stunning canyon walls dotted with eagles nest, waterfalls. and the soothing sight and sound of the Himalayan snowfed river meandering through the golf course. Golfers will find the course challenging and invigorating to play on.

The course has been designed and constructed by an Ex British Army Sandhurst Commissioned Officer Major RB Gurung MBE, who was exclusively invited to take up the challenge to carve a 9 holes Golf Course from what was previously a desolate wasteland of river boulders and swamps. The result of three years of planning, hardwork and dedication has resulted in the creation of an extraordinary course that is not only considered to be most unique in the world but also challenging for all levels of golfers. Says major Ram, "It's been my goal to preserve the natural environment so you can experience the beautiful and inspiring Nepali scenery while at the same time playing a challenging round of golf. The enchantment of this course has to be experienced to be fully appreciated.

In addition to the mountain and river canyon scenery, various forms of wildlife live on or frequent the course. Foxes, monkeys, hawks, eagles are among the resident fauna here. Wild flowers are evident in profusion, with the wild geraniums most visible by the fourth green.

The golf course is 3400 yards from the championship tees. The course incorporates a full range ~shot values to test playing skills. and incorporates such Scottish-influenced features as fairway mounding, split fairways and the use of natural landforms and nature to shape the course. Members and guests' prepare for the demands of HGC on a practice range that is designed to parallel the challenge of the course. Golfers at HGC will meet such features as an island fairway, a ravine, a large island hole encircled by' boulders and water, 30-70 foot elevated hillside tees. and a hauntingly beautiful canyon amphitheater scene.

Pokhara is blessed with a very pleasant subtropical climate. Winters are mild with clear visibility, while the summers are an average of 27°C, with evening showers bringing the temperature down immediately Golf can, therefore, be played throughout the year. When temperatures in Northern Europe fall below freezing. Pokhara experiences a very playable temperature of around 12°C. Likewise when the heat hits 45°C in Delhi, Pokhara has a comparatively agreeable temperature to play golf in.

After playing this excellent course, golfers can relax at the clubhouse with huge verandas all round, reminiscent of a typical tea plantation manager's bungalow in Assam of India.
